He graduated in mechanical engineering in 1974 from Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul (Turkey), and in 1981 from the Technical University of Berlin (Germany), where he also received his PhD degree in 1984. In the period 1977 - 1978, he was a research assistant at the Technical and Civil Engineering Academy in Balıkesir (Turkey), and in 1985 - 2012 he worked at the University of Trakya, where he was first an assistant professor and then a professor, while in 2012 - 2014 he was a professor at the Turkish-German University. Since 2018, he has been working at the Faculty of Technical and Natural Sciences of the Istanbul Rumeli University in Istanbul (Turkey), where he is current- ly a full professor, head of the Department of Industrial Engineering and vice-dean of the Faculty. He is the author and co-author of a number of scientific and professional papers at conferences and in journals.

Today, most of the global energy consumption, mostly fossil fuels, is used for heating and cooling buildings. The fact that fossil fuel reserves have started to decrease all over the world in recent years has revealed the necessity of finding dif- ferent energy sources such as renewable energy sources by reducing the use of fossil fuels, which is one of the goals of the Paris Agreement, and the necessity of using existing energy sources more USE OF PHASE CHANGE MATERIALS IN BUILDINGS effectively and efficiently, as well as the neces- sity of finding different storage solutions for the later use of produced but unused energy. The use of phase change materials, one of these solutions, stands out as one of the most effective methods in thermal storage. In this study, studies on the use of phase change materials in buildings are exam- ined and the advantages and disadvantages of using phase change materials are stated.
