MULTISCALE MODELLING OF HEAT TRANSFER INSIDE THE VACUUM CHAMBER FOR TRANSFORMER DRYING PROCESS

The vacuum drying process is an essential phase in transformer production due to the low final moisture content requirement for cellulose insu- lation. This process involves moisture extraction through vacuum and heat application. Since the drying rate is significantly influenced by the boundary conditions at the interface between the insulation and the surrounding atmosphere, prop- erly defining these boundary conditions should

require simulating both heat and mass transfer within the oven. This simulation should include convection and radiation heat transfer between the insulation, chamber walls, and heating sur- faces, as well as the pump down and venting pro- cesses. This work presents a mathematical model and corresponding simulation that considers all these factors.
